Inspired by the large native trees and natural lighting in the area, the designers used Plymasters American Walnut Veneer to capture the warm earthy tones and bring them inside. The lighting used in the space breaks up the complexity of the Walnut wood grain, deepening its rich tones and highlighting the Matte black cabinetry.
With a 6 meter wide wall span and high ceiling, the team had the opportunity to go big and bold with the design. They used large panelling and cabinetry to create depth and layering in the space, and kept the hardware minimal to not add any unnecessary elements. The thick stone benchtop connected to the kitchen island creates separation between different uses within the space, while also adding to the layering effect of the cabinetry.
Spacebar Design's use of natural and composite materials helped to create a bold kitchen space that celebrated the environment through a modern aesthetic. It's no surprise that this design has been nominated as a finalist in the Best Designs Awards for 2022. The bathroom also uses American Walnut to great effect.
